Mardy grew up in Cedar Falls and graduated from Iowa State University in 1984. He went on to work at Bardwell, Case & Gilbert in Santa Monica, CA and to finally earn his Master of Architecture at the University of Oregon in 1988. During his studies, he went abroad to Denmark and Italy for his graduate research project. His achievements also included the Concrete Building Design Award from ISU and a Graduate Teaching Fellowship at University of Oregon.
Family ties brought him back to Iowa where he joined Flinn Saito Anderson in 1988. He became a partner in 1994 and was made Managing Partner in 1998. Mardy has always retained strong ties with the community, involving himself in many volunteer activities in his hometown, including Community Main Street, Cedar Falls Historical Society, Rotary Club (president 2009-2010), Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Cedar Falls Planning & Zoning Commission from 1999 to present, as well as extending himself to the broader community through membership on the Board of Directors for the Snowden House Historical Home in Waterloo and the Greater Black Hawk County Habitat for Humanity. Mardy and his wife, Lauren, have one daughter Paige (married to Bryce) and a grandson named Jack. Mardy loves to talk about and participate in all kinds of sports, including basketball, golf, and skiing, to name a few.
