Webberking - Mulberry Street Apartments
Webberking - Mulberry Street Apartments
Waterloo, Iowa
Construction completed: 2019
This three-story brick building was constructed by Ernest Webberking in 1917 to house an automotive sales company, college, and apartments. A barber shop has occupied one of the commercial spaces on the main floor since 1941 but the rest of the building was unused as anything other than storage.
The two upper floors were each divided into two spacious loft apartments offering ample natural lighting with numerous large windows. Outdoor decks were added to the two back apartments to offer space for outdoor activities. The three smaller apartments on the main floor were renovated into usable space, maintaining their original historical details where possible - like a tray ceiling or the inviting entrances with unique craftsman style doors and wood overhangs.
The two commercial spaces were renovated - one for the barber shop, and the other to provide a blank canvas for any retail business. The original storefronts that added character to the building had been removed along ago, so the new were made to reflect the era of the building.
