H.A. Maine Building / 708-712 Jefferson Street
Adjacent to the General Machine Buidling, the H.A. Maine Building was built around the same time and shares some similar features. Though in better shape than the neighboring building, it still had its share of issues - like decaying masonry work on the back wall.
Much of the interior spaces were in good enough shape to remain intact, but the original storefronts had been removed or covered with uninspiring materials and painted. As the neighboring General Machine Building was brought back to life, the H. A. Maine Building exterior also received attention. The storefronts were demolished and then rebuilt using the same materials as were used on the General Machine Building to create a cohesive look between the two buildings, much closer to the original appearance.

Before: As shown above, the front facades were uninspiring and the alley side needed repair.
After: The H.A. Maine Building has regained much of its original charm with plenty of windows and welcoming recessed entries.
